Moon-Spun

08 deity girl 2

Lunar flies hard on my heels, gaining, and I push harder, faster, higher, higher—and higher.
“Cascade!” he calls after me, and it’s not anger that dwells in his voice now. I might call it concern if I gave a flying flip.
I skim up the side of the tallest building, faster and faster, past broken windows and dark red granite. Up and up and more until I pass the steel-latticed pyramid of girders and the obelisk-like spire, here where gold-leaf peels off like timeworn wallpaper and rains down its gold flakes on the deserted city.

When I was twenty-two, I ran away to Prague, where I now sing to my black cat (who collects dustballs in her whiskers), eat chocolate for breakfast, and have lemon tarts every Thursday.
