“One last kiss.” She rose up on her tiptoes.
He met her halfway, his arms wrapping around her waist and lifting her off the ground.
“Now fight,” she whispered against his teeth.

(I just thought it was cool and wanted to share :-))
So, for anyone wondering how I’m progressing with Heiress of Magic (for blurb, see below): Based on last week’s numbers, I *might* be done editing by this weekend, because (yay!) tomorrow’s a holiday and I’m sitting my writing butt down and God willing I’m going to be an editing M*O*N*S*T*E*R (in a good way, naturally).
And for the record, I cannot express how utterly and completely and wondrously excited I am about this book and how utterly and completely and wondrously excited I am about those of you who want to read it! I can’t wait to see what you think!
(now time for random photo) :

Philip and me before the swat-team-like group came running out shooting machine guns (will be explained in a later post… maybe); I just wanted to post this because I think it’s a cute pic 🙂
Here are some Heiress of Magic stats:
- 13,713 more words to edit!!! (approx. 39 pages)
- -> out of a total of about 200,000 total (~571 pages)
- Meaning I’ve already edited some 185,000 words (~528 pages)
- Beginning word count was approx. 160,000 words (~457 pages)
- Meaning I added almost 40,000 words (~114 pages) – oof! Bad Sonya. Or else out-of-control story; it really took me for a ride this time, lots of anguish and laughter and joy and tears. Yes! For the first time ever, I cried while writing a scene (and not because I thought the writing was terrible, either – sheesh! 😛 )
- I started writing Lysium’s scenes in August / September 2013
- The first rough draft was finished in November 2013
- The edit has been dragging on since December 2013
Anyway, the plan now is to have a Goodreads giveaway run for two weeks from May 14th to May 29th while the beta readers plow through it, and then hopefully they will all be like (or at least mostly like) gushy-gushy-happy-happy-yay and all I have to do is press publish and then… (dramatic pause) Heiress of Magic is – going – out – into – the – world!!!! (The dashes are me hyperventilating online so you can share in the excitement, in case you were wondering…)
In all honesty, though, every time I think about it, I can hardly contain myself and just want to bounce around and freak out the cats a bit. After all the times I called my mom groaning, “It’s just taking so long! It’s going so slow!” as if she could somehow transform me into a super-heroine editing daughter, it’s just a little hard to believe I’m finally so close. Sometimes it was so hard pressing on, what with the full-time job and having to do everything myself just to keep myself and the kitties fed. As a special treat, I bought meat at the grocery store today! Been so long since I’ve been able to afford it (can’t quite afford it now, but I’m getting there!)
Anyway, some following post might deal with how my flat has been testing my mettle recently, but the good news is the toilet tank lid hasn’t fallen on my head again (the water tank for the toilet is mounted up on the wall and it’s plastic – fortunately; not so much damage then when its lid bops you right on the top of your skull).
LATER: (snot-nosed and bleary-eyed and thinking “should really have been in bed hours ago”) I wrote most of the above post earlier, and my bubbly effervescence is just exhausting. After all, it’s now early morning hours and I just got through some more editing and, ladies and gents, I ended up crying again! NO MORE FREAKING LOVE TRIANGLES! No. Not again. Remind of that someone, please, if I ever think, “Hey, a lot of people seem to like love triangles; I should try one, too” (add idiot grin and head bobbing idiotically side to side thinking this is a good idea) Slap, slap, knock that sense back in, quick!
Seriously, though, to all of you who read my work and like my writing, thank you.
And now for those who haven’t seen the book cover or blurb, here they are:
In the city of mages a guild slave dances, magical stars drifting from her hair that whisper secret persuasions into the minds of those watching. Every evening she writes down her memories before a shadow in the night takes them. This is where the division begins.
For centuries, the walls of the Seven Demesnes have protected men from weirs and shadow-hungry alike. But those eager for the walls to come down are ready to strike, and those who must defend them stand divided. Guild plots against ruler. Mage plots against mage. The powerful vanish. The weak are enslaved. The survivors keep secrets.
When a mage is murdered, blame is thrown – on the wrong person. Lines are drawn – in the wrong places. Unions are made – with the wrong allies.
And when the enemy strikes, not one is prepared.
I’m so excited for Heiress of Magic!!! 😀 Can’t wait to read it! And the feels… If you cryed while writing the love triangle scene, I think I might drown in my own tears… I can get pretty emotional. 🙂
I wish you a good writing/reviewing day/night. 😀
Thank you! I’m always excited to hear that someone is looking forward to it, too! No worries about the crying – I’ve spent night and day with these characters for months, so I *might* be a little more sensitive than I usually am! If you do cry, though, I hope at least some of them are happy tears 😉
